    Hi, we took a trip to Rome about 3 years ago and took a walking tour that included all the important spots, Vatican, fountain, and we took the local buses. The name of the company was in Rick Steve book which I unfortunately don't have anymore. A friend is going and I wanted to recommend that. Rick Steves Pocket Rome works best for people taking a short trip, or perhaps a return trip, to Rome. Like our other Pocket guides, Pocket Rome is smaller than the complete guidebook and in full color (but still offers our best sightseeing advice and a handful of self-guided city .

Currently I have 10 books on rome and Italy that I am ploughing 1993 book for our trip. I would definitely recommend the DK Eyewitness guide of Rome or the DK Eyewitness Rome 10 Top Places. Both books have photos per site for nearly every feature outlined within Rome, this greatly helps the decision making plus it contains just enough history of each site to be informative but not over powering.

Rome is a great city for walking -- be sure to allow yourself enough time to just wander and let yourself get lost.
