Porta (Eds.), Remediation of Contaminated Sediments— The 40 years that have passed since the beginning of the ‘environmental revolution’ has seen a large increase in development of policies for the protection of environmental media and a recognition by the public of the importance of environmental quality.

There has been a shift from policy in reaction to high profile events, then to control of releases to single environmental media, and to Cited by:   Worldwide regulatory frameworks for the assessment and remediation of contaminated soils have moved towards a risk-based approach, taking contaminant bioavailability into consideration.

However, there is much debate on the precise definition of bioavailability and on the standardization of methods for the measurement of bioavailability so that it can be reliably applied as a tool for risk Cited by: Persulfate oxidation was validated as a method to predict polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) bioavailability in soils and sediments.
